The terrible news of the apparent suicide of Robin Williams brings back memories of my father, a WW2 hero, who also suffered from manic depression. During my teen years my father attempted suicide at least two times. Manic depression, now called bipolar disorder, is a horrible disease with its victims often stigmatized by their own communities. Those victims of this disease often lack the resources to obtain good health care. How desperately we need to improve mental health services in our communities.
